FAQ's Page

What’s the value in using Mazina™ FlexBind® hinged page products for printing photo books?

Being able to offer a uniquely different high quality finished product. Because of the integrated hinge heavyweight digital stock can be imaged and bound with lay-flat results! The result is a product that far exceeds the usual book width lightweight pages or the flush-mount book.

What paper, weights and sizes are available?

  • Standard stocked products are 216gsm
  • Paper weights can range from 148gsm to 300gsm
  • Calipers range from 6 pts. (152 µm) to 14 pts. (356 µm)
  • Matte, pearl and satin coated high quality digital papers

Mazina™ sheets are available in various sizes to produce common book sizes. The grain direction is parallel to the hinge and binding direction.

Are Mazina™ Hinged Products certified to run on digital press equipment?

Mazina™ FlexBind® hinged page products have been designed to run on production colour equipment, however due to equipment settings, environmental conditions and operator preferences, testing should always be performed before production runs. Several Mazina™ papers have achieved equipment certifications – products continue to be tested as they are developed and more information is available on equipment compatibility, and online at http://www.printlab.rit.edu

Can I print on both sides of the sheet?

Yes, sheets can be imaged on both sides and on top of the FlexBind® hinge to produce a full panoramic spread with minimal image loss in the gutter.

Can Mazina™ sheets be laminated, UV coated or glossed?

Yes, laminate, UV coat or gloss as you would similar sheets.

What types of binding can I use?

Mazina™ FlexBind® hinged page products can be bound using many common binding methods. See the details – Binding Guide Summary.
